Coffee & Current Reads

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you it’s like October here today, but the sun’s trying to come out. Neil and Isla have gone to the shops, and I’m here on coffee and ready to share. Settle in. We went to a pop-up market in town this week and spent too much on mojito fudge that didn’t actually have mojito in it, I was disappointed. This is an actual mojito fudge recipe. I probably won’t try it myself, but there it is. Yesterday Isla and I took a road-trip with my Dad that included me car-singing Up On The Roof. By myself. Dad took Isla into the bank, but I had fun. Did I tell you Isla has a kite now? And she has absolutely zero interest in it? But she does like to strut, apparently. If we were having coffee, I’d tell you it’s exactly a week til New York Times. Or a week til travel to New York time. Isla wakes up every morning asking, Is it Nana day yet? Next Sunday. If we were having coffee, you’d see we’re already in packing mode. In related news, Isla spent most of the morning walking around with one of my bras on her head. No pictures, please. In further related news, Neil has um, suggested that I only take my Kindle with me on the trip. Even...

My Top 17 Travel Memories

In my last post I mentioned that *I was this close* to 200 groovy likers on Gin & Lemonade’s Facebook page.  With a little help from my friends, I’m now at 215.  Thank you! Moving on.  In a minute. When I was sitting at 199, I said that groovy person 200 would get to choose the topic for my next blog post. What I learned from that exercise is that I can’t count. But I asked Angela over at You Are Awesome and she suggested that I share 200 of my favourite things. Hey, presto.  New blogging series where...

My Favourite Blogging Hangout

I know I’ve been getting kinda good with the MWF schedule.  And Tuesdays are not on THE SCHEDULE.  I shall be adding ‘Be flexible’ to the list of 10 Things I’ve Learned In 7 Years of Blogging. And so, I just have to share that my favourite blogging group is currently sitting at 495 members, and I’ve heard there’ll be a party celebrating 500 members. Read this, and then go join the fun. The groovy people at BUYB have been the ones that really re-sparked my blogging mojo, and they/we can do the same for you! And while I’m on the subject of FB Land, Gin & Lemonade’s page has 190 lovely folk over there.  If you are so inclined, give me a like over there.  Gin & Lemonade for everyone. I’ve also decided I’m throwing a GIANT blog party when I hit 5,000 readers on the actual blog, so pop your email in the subscription box on the top right of the sidebar, and I promise not to be boring! Share the love, Lorna xox If you enjoyed this post, please consider voting for Gin & Lemonade in the Best Overall Blogger category at the Annual Bloggers Bash Awards here. Much appreciated, thank you!...

How To Shop When You Hate Shopping

The only shopping I like is book shopping. I buy myself new clothes about once every 3 years, I don’t follow trends, and malls are not my happy place.  Unless we’re talking books, coffee, or movies. And today I want to talk about clothes. After we booked THE TRIP, I got excited for a bunch of reasons.  One was the chance to shop in stores that carried clothes in my size that I would actually wear. But then I realised I might need a shopping trip before I went shopping.  I looked in my closet and saw the same clothes I bought on our last trip, and the trip before that.    And some sweatshirts I’ve had since I was 12 years old. All of my shopping recently has been for Isla, so anything I want to get has to somehow magically appear in the 10 minutes before there’s a melt-down.  Mine, not hers.  Since I don’t find shopping a relaxing experience,  the last thing I want to do on a shopping trip is shop for myself.  Unless it’s books. However.  Last week I found myself in Inverness.  Without Isla.  I figured it would be a good time to get stuff to put in the suitcase for the trip.  Y’know, the one that should be light, but not actually empty. I managed to get some stuff.  Stuff to wear....

Coffee & Gin

If we were having coffee I’d say, are you ready for this? I’ve been up for hours and I don’t know what time it is, and I haven’t had my coffee yet.  Isla already cracked some eggs, put her wellies on, and now wants to fly a kite.  That’s fine.  I love my experimental, outdoorsy, artistic child.  But lemme say something here.  Coffee before kites. I have a coffee now.  Hi.  I feel better now.  How are you? If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about last night.  Sorry I had to hang up on you. Isla got into the cinnamon.  It became an event. If we were having coffee, I’d say she fell asleep and I wanted to write.  But I sat in this very spot with my cider and nothing happened. And so, I went to bed with Ben and Jerry.  Neil was fine with it.  Trust me. And, today is another day. And speaking of coffee, check out Crystal at The Cappuccino Traveler.  One of the things on my to-do list is ‘Visit all the bookshops in the world’.  Crystal’s kinda doing that with coffeeshops.  I get caffeinated just reading her blog.  Which is good.  Because most of the coffee places around here are inaccessible or serve shite coffee. I still think the best place to get coffee on this island is my house.  What...
