One of my/our favorite days of THE TRIP was visiting the butterflies and penguins (and other creatures) at Long Island Aquarium.
Neil and I went years ago and we’d been looking forward to taking Isla (even before she was Isla).
I honestly don’t know who was more excited.
Here are some photos from our day there. With a caption contest for the last one!

And the priceless moment we actually paid 20 bucks for:

Yes, that is a real penguin, people. Caption contest, anyone?
Is Awkward Family Photos still a thing?

Oh wow- my daughter would’ve absolutely loved to have met a penguin! Now we need to go to Long Island to do this! Awesome x
Next time we’ll all go together!
R and the kids would LOVE to have their photo taken with a real penguin! (Actually, I think R would be more excited than the kids. Penguins are his thing.) Neil’s shirt is great, btw.
I have the same shirt. We wore them at our wedding rehearsal. Because no one needs two dresses.
Ollie would be so jealous of that penguin picture! His favorite stuffed toy is a penguin. So cute!!
Lorna, love the photos of the fish. Aren’t those blue ones beautiful!!

My kids would love this!!!
Wow, $20 – one would expect that the sign should cut off your husband’s head!!! Personally I’d call it People and Penguin Portrait ?
Expensive yes, but worth it to see Neil and Isla have this moment. Couple of penguin obsessives, they are. He wouldn’t have appreciated being cut out.
Layers of fun! I have been meaning to go there, bring only a couple of hours’ drive away. Thanks for reminding me with your adorable pictures!
Looks like such a fun trip!!! So many pretty photos!!
Lorna – where is the aquarium ? Is it in Riverhead? Must be in Suffolk county? I love penguins and used to live in LI but never went there 🙂 looks like fun!
Hi Joan, Yep, it’s in Riverhead. Used to be called Atlantis Marine World, too, I think.
