Books Sharing The Love

Catching Up On Reading With WWW Wednesdays

31st July 2019
stack of books

Since I haven’t written a bookish post in a while, I thought I’d link up with WWW Wednesdays.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

I’ve gotten most of my reading done on my road trips this year, and this recent stack is no exception.

The books linked in this post are Amazon affiliate links, I make a small commission if you make a UK or US purchase through them, at no extra cost to you. Read my disclosure here.)

Current reads are:

The Most Fun We Ever Had

I love family stories, especially ones with lots of siblings. Go figure. This is a great, big book, that reads fast. If you like humor in your dysfunction, this one’s for you.

Furious Hearts: Murder, Fraud, And The Last Trial of Harper Lee.

I’m a Harper Lee fangirl, and a true crime junkie. This isn’t what I expected when I started reading it, but I can’t stop reading it. Brilliant, but more than I ever wanted to know about insurance. Stick with it.

And I’m on a Meg Wolitzer binge, reading The Female Persuasion and listening to The Wife.

My mind is playing tricks, Glenn Close is on the cover, but the narrator isn’t Glenn Close. But she kinda sounds like her. Maybe that’s the idea. With the movie, and all. Anyway, read and or listen, and then tell me if I’m weird.

An Unwanted Guest

Getting Agatha Christie and vintage Mary Higgins Clark vibes. Enjoying the ride. Better than The Couple Next Door

The Good Thieves:

An adventure through New York. For more groovy elements, see also my review of The Psychology of Time Travel later on this list.

Recently finished:

Ask Again, Yes

I’m adding this book to my recent favourites. I loved it, lived with it, and didn’t want it to end. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this. I want to read it all over again. Ten stars.

The book is now featured on The Tonight Show Summer Reads.

The Psychology of Time Travel

About the only thing I love more than dysfunctional family fiction is fiction where grandkids team up with their grandkids to save the world. For a book on time travel, I finished this in two days. Laughed a bunch. Cried buckets. And then made Neil read it. He liked it, too.

On deck:

Not sure. What are you reading?

And while you’re here, have a read of my essay in Stylist on my experience of wedding dress shopping as a wheelchair-user.

I’m not reading anything right now because I just finished Song of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury at about 1am — enjoyed it, though I didn’t remember enough about the first book not to be confused at the start. I have a bunch of library books to read, and also a book about peace and active pacifism that I kind of need to read this week in order to return it to its owner on Sunday, which may be my last chance to do so.

I read The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer and wasn’t that impressed so I never picked up anything of hers again. Maybe I’ll try again! And I am totally interested in Ask Again, Yes – I am so intrigued! Here is mine https://www.autismfamilypower.com/www-wednesday-july-31-2019/

See, now, I loved The Interestings! Ask Again, Yes, is my best read since Where The Crawdad s Sing. Hope you get to it!

I really liked Where The Crawdads Sing too – I already marked Ask Again, Yes as a “To Read” on Goodreads – I’m looking forward to it! Thanks for the heads up!

Good looking options here. I am reading Rose in Bloom (bed) and Peaches for Monsieur le Curè downstairs. I love both in certain ways. The first is a very old Louisa May Alcott with some questionable opinions voiced throughout which is interesting for cultural context but just plain wrong in modern day! The second is a Joanne Harris- love her.

You’ve got a few books on my To-Read list right now! I’m currently reading a book called The Island that’s kind of a family drama type book but yet kind of a summer beach read if that makes sense! I wish there were more hours in the day for reading because I have so many books I want to read!

Ask Again, Yes is one of the top reads on my TBR! I’m so excited to read it. I’ve also got the Psychology of Time Travel on my shelf and I’ve been looking forward to reading that for a while!

I’ve heard so many good things about Ask Again, Yes. Should put that on my TBR! Think that would be a good book club pick? Some ladies in my little town are starting a book club. (I will mostly keep my mouth closed and just concentrate on the wine!) They’ve picked Little Fires Everywhere for the first read, I think, and you know I found that meh. Maybe for our second I can convince them to try Ask Again, Yes!

All sound good. I’m not reading anything at the moment but I’m hoping to get back into reading when Steve goes back to work and Elsie hopefully naps!

I legit couldn’t read anything while pregnant or during Isla’s first few months. You get a pass.

I’ve just started Furiously Happy, I can only manage one book at a time these days.

Do you read Jenny Lawson’s blog, The Bloggess (https://thebloggess.com)? Of course you do.

Not as often as you would think. I follow her on Twitter and occasionally go on the blog.
