Hi Lorna…Dr. Zhivago! Have not read that for a long time now, but I try to see the film every now and then…the photography is so wonderful…and the story is so profound. In the film, the scene (toward the middle) where Zhivago is taken to Strelnikov’s train for a confrontation is a signal ‘thinker’ for me. Zhivago confronts Strelnikov, the cause-driven man, with his strong statement about the need to keep the personal life alive in Russia. When all is said and done, that’s what it’s all about…

Another film…”The Last Station” (from the book) is excellent…Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer…about Tolstoy…also productive of much reflection.

Hello! Dad keeps saying I should watch The Last Station, if it’s a book as well, I shall read the book first!

I see a picture of an angry banana and a goblin either engaged in a swordfight or, uh, something.

A Visit from the Goon Squad is a great book; I’ve had a good reading streak recently; every book has been deep and fulfilling or whatever. Goon Squad is maybe the best of the bunch. How far into it are you? The penultimate chapter is the greatest thing you’ll read all year. Also, your cover is a lot cooler than the US paperback cover. I just started The Tiger’s Wife now. Got a lot of hype, so I”m wary. I hope it doesn’t break my great book streak.

I need a good book at the moment, and Goon Squad is it! Hundred pages in, and it’s fantastic. I first heard about it through your mention of Tournament of Books, so thank you!

Just finished Goon Squad last night. Wow. I lived with that book for a week! And you’re right, that chapter was the best. I also misted a bit over the Naples one. How’s Tiger’s Wife?

Have you read Everything is Illuminated? The Tiger’s Wife is essentially the same book: a deservedly well-hyped first novel about a young person’s discovery of a mystical heritage, but The Tiger’s Wife has fewer fart jokes.

Sounds good. However, …Illuminated is one of the few times I’ve preferred the film to the book!

I have watched Dr.Z film so many times I know almost every scene by heart…but have yet to read the book.

I see either The Flash (of super hero-fame) or a Trojan warrior wearing one of those broom-helmuts. Yep.

Also, my grandma says that when you have lots of bubbles in your coffee, it means there’s lots of money in your future. In my coffee bubble opinion, I’d say you have a fair amount of money in your future.

Also also, I am belatedly here to tell you that I mentioned you on my blog last week–congrats, you’re a versatile blogger!

Also, I recently got a job, and I’m sending a story off in the hopes that it get published. We’ll see what those two things do to my bank balance. Though, I don’t work or write for the money. Any paycheque of mine goes to the credit card bill, books and holidays!

Also also, cool! I am working on my facts. I’m all about the randomness!

I’m reading Rethinking Human Rights, and Damn You, John Christie! These won’t mean a thing to you as they are Australia-related and published in Melbourne. The second book is about Australia’s first Sherlock Holmes. Both fascinating! ^_^
