How To Lose A Phone in 10 Hours

16th September 2011

Let’s say you forgot your phone somewhere. Left it on your desk at work/in your locker/in a field/dropped it down a toilet. This is what you might do while you waited to retrieve your phone, if you were in this purely hypothetical situation: Call it.  Five times.   To make sure it isn’t in the house.  Curse silent-mode.  Stare at your bag, where your phone should be.   Lift the  bag and call your phone again, to see if you…

4th June 2011

Taking a break from the weekend fixture Magic Coffee, I thought I’d ask 20 Questions: 1.  Why do some people think that applying lots of fake tan improves the way they look?  I don’t know.  That’s why I’m asking. 2.  What was the last thing you accidentally left in your desk drawer at work?  A copy of The Bell Jar. 3.  What’s the last funny thing your partner said?  Not printable.  No, Sarge actually recently said, ‘Not printable.’  And I…

Rowling The Lacuna – Barbara Kingsolver The Slap – Christos Tsiolkas A Very Private Gentleman: A Novel – Martin Booth I Was Amelia Earhart – Jane Mendelsohn Warm…

Nine To Thirty

22nd March 2011

There are nine days until my 30th birthday.  In light of these single digit days, I have revamped my 29 list: Call Embassy if passport doesn’t appear. Write blog posts that aren’t lists. Outline new projects. Read my 20th book of the year, and possibly more. Pop my ear.  My cold from last week has moved into my right ear.  Never has the phrase ‘blow it out your ear’ meant so much. Watch people bake Cakes for Japan, Edinburgh –…
