If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that Isla was in her first school Christmas play this week. She was an angel. We are not particularly religious, but an awkward stage debut is a rite of passage.
She stood on that stage, all crooked wings and halo. Singing and signing the songs. The loudest word she sang was ‘CELEBRATE!’ And I was *this-close* to leaping from my seat and shouting ‘Get it, baby.’ Because that was my BABY on a STAGE doing her THING. In regulation school shoes.
I could not take my eyes off of her. And I really wanted to smooth out the hem of her dress.
Whatever she chooses to do with her life, I’ll be there waving the mom-freak flag going, THAT’S MY KID.
In maybe related news, my Mom flies in from New York on Monday. We’re basically spending three weeks together. I hope everyone still has their own hair by the end of it.
And in a strange twist of nostalgia, it is my dearest Christmas wish that my extremely divorced parents get along for one day.
I’ll be sitting with my in-laws and my better than stepmother, concentrating on Isla and maybe getting quietly drunk.
Everyone’s gonna be well-oiled well-behaved. Right?
What are you doing for the holidays? Think of us.
If we were having coffee I’d mention that I’ve launched a weekly email newsletter to go with Gin & Lemonade.
The sign up for the newsletter as at the bottom of posts. Click here to see what it looks like.
The newsletter is DIFFERENT from the blog post email subscription in the sidebar of the blog.
The newsletter is called Gin Shots and when you confirm your subscription, your welcome email from me looks like this:
Hi,

Oh, I feel you. And you were so brave to have both your parents at your wedding; I was chicken so mom won.
PS. You guys are not allowed to move back. I’ve decided.
Signed up!
Thank you, Hayley! Feel free to share with your friends. 😉
Isla looked beautiful and I love how proud you are of her. Lets hope your own parents make you proud of them by getting on for a day. Hope you don’t need to get drunk but enjoy it if you do.
Signing up. Can’t wait for a Gin Shot!
Haha, cute angel! Wishing you the best over the holidays.. I’m pretty sure my hip is going to be killing me and darn, we just can’t stay very long.. 🙂 Merry Christmas, everyone! See ya.
What a cute angel 😀
Hope that the holidays go smoothly – well oiled or not…
Happy 2018, Alli!
I think things are much more fun when everyone is well oiled versus well behaved anyway. 😉
