The Bridal (Hair) Hump and The Sneezes of Doom

14th January 2013

As he pulled me backwards down the ramp and on to the street, the taxi driver asked what I was doing there. On a Monday. In the rain. In Glasgow. ‘Wedding make-up trial.’ ‘Are you going to be a bridesmaid?’ ‘No. I’m the bride.’ ‘Really?’ Yes, really.’ ‘Congratulations!’ ‘Thank you. Have a nice day.’ As I made my way up to Dad and Anne’s flat, I thought about how much I live to surprise people. Not really. Maybe a little.…

Welcome to The Year of Awesome

2nd January 2013

Happy New Year!  You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to say that.  So long, I’ll say it again.  Happy New Year! The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop   These are the books I lived with this year.  The ones I…

I felt bad that we slept through January 1st. As I sat backwards on the bus on the way the second party of the year, I vowed not to waste another day. By the end of that week, I’d written a…

A Certain Rite of Passage

16th December 2012

Yesterday marked 6 months until the wedding.  Sarge and I celebrated by opening some sparkly from the engagement party and watching a double-bill of The Usual Suspects and Mixed Nuts.  Guess which one was my choice. And. We were also toasting the the fact that I quit my job on Friday.  Although I prefer the term ‘left voluntarily’.  See, the giant stresshead I mentioned in my last post kinda exploded. The first flowery boot dropped on Thursday night at a…
