Gin & Lemonade’s Top 10 Posts of 2017

8th December 2017

2017 has been a weird little blogging year around here.  I think I posted twice in January and then disappeared until April.  I don’t know what happened, either.  It’s old news.  We are not there any more.

19955990_10156339166992067_6803280766272554476_o

One of my top photos of the year, too.

But as I plan to get more wordy this month and next year, I thought I’d take a deep breath and give you a rundown on my most popular posts of 2017.  Or since April.

10. Coffee & Questions –  This one was kind of a readers survey where I asked you guys questions about what you’d like to see around here.  Which kind of contradicts another post I’ve written.  But a girl can change her mind.  And I’d still be interested in your thoughts on the survey questions.

9. Conversations With My Kid – I think Isla’s pretty funny and apparently you do, too.  Thank you.  I know it’s sometimes hard to like other people’s kids.

8. Coffee & Gin –  This was one for #weekendcoffeeshare.  I’ve lost track of who hosts it these days, but it’s a groovy concept which I embrace wholeheartedly.

7.  How To De-Stress When You Can’t Walk It Off –  The one where I got a little pissed off about the usual suspects on self-care lists.

6. An Alternate Universe –  The one where I got a little mushy.

5.  My Top 17 Travel Memories –  Gems and outtakes from travels past.

4.  Drinking Red Wine On Vacation –  All that and a crazy doll.

3. I Should Take My Own Writing Advice – No, really.  I should.  Honest.

2.  When The Accessible Hotel Room Is Inaccessible –  Adventures in hotel room-hopping.

And my top post of 2017 is…

1. 10 Things I’ve Learned In 7 Years of Blogging –  I’m not a blogging expert, and I’ve decided I’m a writer who blogs.  I’ve changed my mind on some of these points, but that’s another post.  More blogging advice can now be found here.

Feel free have a read of these and add to the conversations either here or there!

It would seem you guys like when I tell it like it is, so there will be more of that going forward.

I’m not finished for the year, but these are my greatest hits of the year so far.

What about you?

What’s the plural of hiatus? I don’t want any more of them. You’re not allowed either, by the way! x

I like #5 for its pace; you’re sharing quick snippets of memories that [obviously] hold a lot of weight, and I enjoy that. And #1 is a classic – your advice is appreciated by this blogger! 🙂

Brilliant idea for a blog post. Can I be cheeky and copy this idea and of course link back to yours?

    • Reply Lorna 9th December 2017 at 2:37 pm

Of course, but mention that I got it from too many people to list. I’ve seen the idea on a few Blogmas prompt lists! x

Hi, I remember reading some of these post in 2017 and enjoying them. I forgot about #weekendcoffeeshare. That was a neat idea – maybe we should consider it for 2018???

  • Reply The Emma Edit 9th December 2017 at 2:36 pm

I might have to steal your idea, this is a great idea to do a little summary 😃. I do remember seeing some of these posts!

Cool beans. It’s on a few blogmas post prompt lists, too. x

I like your “year in review”. This is a pretty good idea! I had planned a simple blog recap for December 31st but I think I’ll steal this idea and include my top posts. Heehee!

Congrats on a productive blogging year Lorne (especially after a several month hiatus). I’ve loved following you. Looking forward to seeing what next year has in store!

  • Reply Clare 10th December 2017 at 11:22 am

What a lovely way to celebrate the year. Forget that you took some time off, you obviously needed it.

  • Reply Sonia Cave 10th December 2017 at 2:32 pm

I had a blogging hiatus too, but for three months over the summer…sometimes it is all a little too much!

  • Reply josypheen 10th December 2017 at 6:29 pm

I always like it when you tell it like it is. 😀
I can’t wait to see your books too. 2018 will be the year.

I just looked at this again, and now my main thought is that I LOVE your photo of the year. She is such a cutie.

      • Reply Lorna 17th December 2017 at 7:51 am

She’s clever first. It was a toss up between that one and the time she put tights on her head because she wanted to be Peter Pan.

  • Reply BattleMum 10th December 2017 at 10:16 pm

I did a similar post at the beginning of the year for 2016 and plan to do the same for 2017. Your travel post is very interesting!

  • Reply Em Linthorpe 11th December 2017 at 9:56 am

Ahh, I’m having a little hiatus. Just poking my twitchy nose out of the other side of it now. 🙂 There are a few of these I haven’t read so will check them out before 2018 for sure.

And look at what’s top of your list!! Blogging tips posts are pretty good for views and engagement, my one and only (the Flipboard one) is far and away my most popular post and you know what…I quite enjoyed writing it! Do you think you’ll be writing any more of these posts in 2018? Xx

    • Reply Lorna 11th December 2017 at 10:11 am

I might build on it and do a resources type of thing. My issue is being surprised that people are asking me for advice, ha! But I’ve gotten emails asking for more tips, so I’ll do some more blogging posts, I think.

This is a lovely post – heading off to read number 7 now! Maybe there is some kind of collaboration we could fit in there? x

    • Reply Lorna 11th December 2017 at 10:43 am

Lauren, I’d love to collaborate with you! I read your posts and often think the same. x
