Maybe I Should Keep Writing

14th October 2019

I’m sitting here at my sliver of kitchen table surrounded by books and drawings and wilted flowers. More on my writing environment is over here.

I know I haven’t written in a week.

Yesterday it took 8 hours to upload my first Q and A video.

The Gin & Lemonade trailer is here:

Before I edited the trailer I was Laura from German Lemonade. Hi.

(If real captions don’t appear automatically, hit cc on bottom right of screen.)

After the new video finished uploading, I edited the captions, but this morning when I got ready to post it, I noticed the captions hadn’t saved. And they continue not to work.

So, until I figure that out, only my husband gets to see how gahddamn awkward I am, and how very, very, very long the technical side of um, content creation, takes me.

I missed World Cerebral Palsy Day last week. Regular readers will know I have a complicated relationship with awareness days of any sort.

For instance, on World CP day, Neil left for an office week in the city. Isla and I don’t go with him, because we know very few people with accessible houses big enough for three extra people for a week, and hotels are too expensive.

And so, when Neil goes away, my Dad comes over to help at night. Last time we shared a house was over here.

This time, there was more baseball in the background, and again, no judgement of my parenting choices. Good deal.

I also did a lot of disability-related shite phone tag.

If you’re reading this far, please let’s not talk about wheelchair repairs, paperwork, or passports, or married names. Unless you want to.

Instead let’s talk about NaNoWriMo, how I might have a face for podcasts, and maybe opening that bookstore someday. Let’s talk about books to read for the Disability Readathon.

I also noticed I missed World Mental Health Day. Because I lived it. I hope you got through, too.

There were a bunch of blog posts planned for when life happened, so those will happen this week.

Possibly as part of a five-post week experiment.

I thought doing videos would be a quicker outlet, but well, it isn’t. Even before I start the regular blooper videos, I’m changing the frequency from weekly to monthly.

Before Neil left for his work week, we recorded a blog/channel trailer and a Q and A. From that, we cut a blooper reel.

Same day, same shirt, same bad angle from me. Once I type out captions and take some advice, the promised videos will happen monthly over on my Patreon.

I promise I do own different shirts.

For now, I’ll take these pointers and keep writing.

I haven’t done NaNoWriMo in a few years (did about 4 in a row) and I remember how much fun it was.

I missed mental health day too… I’m not brave enough for NaNoWriMo.. nano camp yes, but NaNoWriMo is to much for me. Keep going with the video, I’m sure it does take ages to create.. that’s one reason why I’m leaving it at Facebook live for now. My hubby, after watching you, just criticised me for using my tablet to film myself. I told him, “Lornas husband is helping her, he has the camera” oh right, he said.. ha ha.. I don’t think he will help me any time soon.
Keep going, you are doing good!

We used a tripod. Not well, though.

ha ha, better then trying to hold a tablet still in front of you and hoping the internet does not cut out.. I haven’t used our video camera in years.. but yes yours is a much more professional approach!

I want to post fun content on YouTube and I just…. listen, I’m barely handling IG stories and I don’t know if I can learn a new thing AND take a reliable shower so I don’t look like I need a welfare check. And yes, like you, I lived the mental awareness day and yeah. I left the house and I’m calling it a win. I succeeded that day. Stranded in Chaos
